The K-12 Education Administration, MOE makes effort in implementing a students’ group insurance to look after students of senior high schools (including below and preschoolers) for their best interests, and to reduce their families’ financial stress in case of diseases or accidents. This students’ group insurance was delegated to a professional insurance company; Mercuries Life Insurance Co., Ltd. It has been selected as the insurer of school year 101. To clarify parents’ concerns regarding the insurance claim application procedure, the manual of “Students’ Group Insurance Claim Application” has been compiled this year for the first time as a SOP to enhance service quality.
The procedure of students’ group insurance claim is as follows. Firstly, all required documents should be collected (through the processing window at the school), stamped and approved by the school. Then, they will be submitted to the claim unit for processing. Lastly, the school’s processing unit will sign on payment received note after the claim unit transfers the claim amount to the designated account or writes a check,. The students’ group insurance provides compensation for death, disability, group poisoning, and medical insurance premiums, etc. (registration fees and diagnosis certificate fees are not included). The beneficiary will normally be the insurer’s legal guardian; in the exceptional cases when insurers attain legal age, the beneficiary shall be the insurer’s kin. The claim application is valid within two years from the day when it becomes possible to claim the insurance (i.e. from the day of the accident). The detailed manual of the claim application procedure has been placed under the students’ group insurance section on the official website of the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Security, K-12 Education Administration, MOE (http://203.68.64.24/six/main/hsub10.html) for downloading and viewing. Parents who have any concerns regarding this insurance claim application procedure may make an enquiry at any claim contacting windows of the insurers listed in the manual.
In Taiwan, there are approximately 3.6 million students of senior high schools (including below and preschools) that are covered under this students’ group insurance plan; the service is across Taiwan. This is certainly a challenge to insurers, but it also represents an important public welfare undertaking. With the claim application procedure becoming standardized and specific, the students’ group insurance claim service will operate more smoothly and efficiently; it will also clarify parents’ long standing doubts and concerns.
