Announced Unit:Division of Junior High and Elementary Education
To create an English-speaking environment in elementary and junior high schools, the K-12 Education Administration, Ministry of Education, has implemented the Program on Assisting Public National Primary and Secondary Schools in Recruiting Part-time English Language Teaching Assistants (the “ELTA Program”). In the school year of 2021, it launched a pilot program that focuses on recruiting and training international students in Taiwan to serve as part-time English teaching assistants in elementary and junior high schools. They needed to work in schools on a weekly basis or held camps during the winter and summer vacations to increase students' opportunities for using English in the learning environment, thereby motivating them to communicate in English and strengthening their English listening and speaking skills. During the school year of 2021, a total of 131 ELTAs served in schools.
