Multicultural literacy is an important subject in the Curriculum Guidelines of 12-year Basic Education. Considering this, the K-12 Education Administration of the Ministry of Education is offering a curriculum in new immigrant languages in both physical and distance learning formats to lay the foundation for cultivating young talent.  New immigrant children in elementary and junior high schools can study their father’s or mother’s native language from a choice of seven languages. According to data from the 2022-23 academic year, 1,166 schools in Taiwan have offered 5,390 new immigrant language classes to a total of 13,639 students, which is a significant increase from previous years.
